Banked Hours Announcement
On Aug. 9, 2006 UFC representatives Jack Dugan, Brenda Hubbard, Bob Hickey, Edward Taub and Daniel CannCasciato, met with CWU administration representatives Michael Jennings, Tom Peischl and Deb Schriber-Barkley for the purpose of clarifying how the hours previously referred to as "banked hours" be credited. There was a concern among the faculty that when the term and future practice of "banked hours" was deleted from the contract that deans were mistakenly denying some faculty from being given credit in their workload plans for such previously earned hours.
After a lengthy discussion, UFC and the administration agreed that it was the administration's and the Union's intent during contract negotiations to allow those faculty who had earned this accrued economic benefit of "banked hours" to be given credit for them in current work loads. While there is now an understanding that the term "banked hours" is no longer part of our contract language, Jennings agreed that every effort should be made by the chairs and deans to acknowledge those previous efforts (formerly known as banked hours) in the current workload plans. Faculty who have accumulated such hours should negotiate reasonable and appropriate credit in their workload plans with their chairs over the next few terms or years, as enrollment demands and department flexibility allows.
If faculty are unable to arrive at agreement with chairs or deans, we suggest that faculty meet with their union steward or contact the union office (x2892) for assistance.
