Benefits - Why belong to a United Faculty organization?
Shared Power. That's what the United Faculty of Central is all about: uniting our individual voices in a shared vision, ending the one-way power structure favored by CWU's administration, and uniting with higher education peers across the nation to increase our strength.
UFC members are standing up for the values we believe in. UFC is our voice to help win increased salaries, ensure equitable job assignments and negotiate fair contracts.
As part of the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers and the United Faculty of Washington State, UFC provides our members with expertise and experienced support for contract negotiations, grievances and discipline issues. Research experts offer assistance with budget analyses that can debunk administrative funding excuses. Members benefit from legal representation to defend academic freedom and the costs for job-related actions, plus a million dollars in professional liability insurance protection. Professional staff in our state and national unions work for us advocating increased education funding and serving as a watchdog and advocate for changes in education policy.
Members also can access relevant resources and publications: AFT/NEA and WEA publish a variety of journals, newsletters and reports containing information and data about higher education.

Our shared power offers us a way to speak with a common voice. When faculty members meld their individual views into the unified body of UFC, we can stand up for our values in a way that's much stronger than our individual voices alone. Please join us in this journey.
