United
Faculty: So what's the benefit to me?
Individualism
is a great thing in our country, but sometimes it's no fun to stand
alone.
Members
of United Faculty of Eastern are part of an association that helps
level the field when dealing with administrators on tough or uncomfortable
issues. UFE is our voice to help ensure increased salaries, equitable
job assignments and fair contracts.
UFE
provides our members with expertise and experienced support for
contract negotiations, grievances and discipline issues. Research
experts offer assistance with budget analyses that often debunk
administrative funding excuses. Members benefit from legal representation
to defend academic freedom and costs for job-related actions, plus
a million-dollars in professional liability insurance protection.
Professional staff in United Faculty of Washington State and its
national peer groups, the National Education Association and the
American Federation of Teachers, advocate for increased education
funding and serve as a watchdog and advocate for changes in education
policy.
Members
also can access relevant resources and publications: AFT/NEA and
WFT/WEA publish a variety of journals, newsletters and reports containing
information and data about higher education.
Perhaps
most importantly, however, is that UFE offers a way for us to speak
with a common voice. When faculty members transform individual views
into the unified body of UFE, we are no longer easily ignored.
