16 Mar 09 - UFE: Appoint Qualified Faculty to Senior Lecturer!
On Wednesday, March 11, we filed a grievance protesting the administration’s refusal to appoint at least five Lecturers who qualified to Senior Lecturer despite the fact that they were approved by their DPC, CPC, Chair and Dean. The reasons given were “financial”, which makes no sense despite the budget crunch. There is very little in the way of pay increases pursuant to the promotion and precious little additional protection afforded by a two year contract than a one year contract. So, why did they do it?
Despite the fact that contract language states that the administration “may” appoint Lecturers to Senior Lecturer, we found some language in one of the college policies and procedures that we are using as the basis for the grievance.
Our union is committed to representing EWU faculty and so we had to find a way to address this injustice and we did. We will keep you posted as the grievance progresses through the procedure.
